Główny Inspektorat Sanitarny został poinformowany poprzez System Wczesnego Ostrzegania o Niebezpiecznej Żywności i Paszach (RASFF) o stwierdzeniu w badaniach urzędowych przekroczenia najwyższego dopuszczalnego poziomu kwasu cyjanowodorowego w nasionach lnu. Zgodnie z oceną ryzyka Narodowego Instytutu Zdrowia Publicznego PZH – Państwowego Instytutu Badawczego przy stwierdzonym w badaniach poziomie kwasu cyjanowodorowego nie można wykluczyć ryzyka dla dzieci, jeśli zmielone (rozdrobnione) siemię lniane jest spożywane w ilości zalecanej przez Europejską Agencję Leków (EMA). EMA zaleca spożywanie 10-15 g siemienia lnianego (całego lub rozdrobnionego) trzy razy dziennie w celu leczenia zaparć u dorosłych i młodzieży w wieku powyżej 12 lat.
