El inflador de la bolsa de aire del conductor puede explotar durante el despliegue, debido a la degradación del propulsor que ocurre después de una exposición prolongada a una humedad absoluta alta, alta temperaturas y ciclos de alta temperatura. Una explosión del inflador puede provocar que fragmentos de metal afilados golpeen al conductor u otros ocupantes, lo que puede provocar lesiones graves o la muerte
