Los vehículos afectados están equipados con una bolsa de aire frontal del conductor y pasajero de dos etapas que puede ser susceptible a la entrada de humedad y otros factores, incluida la variabilidad de fabricación que, con el tiempo, podría provocar la ruptura del inflador. En caso de un accidente que requiera el despliegue de las bolsas frontales del lado del conductor y/o lado pasajero, estos infladores podrían romperse y fragmentos de metal golpearían al conductor u otros ocupantes, provocando lesiones graves o la muerte.
