Un defecto en la estrategia de protección contra fallas del software del Módulo de Control del Powertrain (PCM) podría evitar que el sistema de control de crucero se desconecte. Si, al usar el control de crucero, hay un cortocircuito dentro del cableado del vehículo, es posible que el conductor no pueda apagar el control de crucero ya sea presionando el pedal del freno o apagando manualmente el sistema una vez que se haya activado. Si el vehículo mantiene su velocidad o acelera a pesar de los intentos de desactivar el control de crucero, habrá un mayor riesgo de choque.
