El inflador del airbag del acompañante delantero puede romperse, debido a la excesiva presión interna, durante los eventos normales de despliegue de estos. Esta condición es más probable que ocurra si el vehículo ha estado expuesto a altos niveles de humedad absoluta durante largos períodos de tiempo. La ruptura de un inflador, durante el despliegue de los airbags, podría resultar en fragmentos metálicos que golpearían a los ocupantes del vehículo, resultando en lesiones graves o la muerte.
