El resorte de la bolsa de aire del vehículo puede absorber polvo si el vehículo está expuesto a ambientes polvorientos. El polvo dentro del resorte del reloj podría comprometer los circuitos de la bolsa de aire, provocando que se encienda la luz de advertencia de la bolsa de aire y/o la posibilidad de que la bolsa de aire del conductor se desactive durante una colisión. Una falla del circuito de la bolsa de aire puede impedir que la bolsa de aire frontal del conductor se despliegue en caso de un choque, aumentando el riesgo de lesiones.
