La carcasa del inflador del airbag del conductor puede romperse debido al desarrollo de una presión interna excesiva durante una activación normal del airbag. Las probabilidades de que se produzca este problema son mayores si el vehículo ha estado expuesto a un alto nivel de humedad absoluta durante un período prolongado de tiempo. Una rotura del inflador, durante una activación normal del airbag, podría dar lugar a fragmentos metálicos capaces de golpear y dañar gravemente a los ocupantes del vehículo.
