Un fallo en la palanca del freno de estacionamiento puede provocar un movimiento inadecuado del vehículo cuando está estacionado, aumentando la ocurrencia de accidentes con daños materiales, daños físicos graves o incluso mortales a los ocupantes del vehículo y/o a terceros.
