What the authority reported

The product presents a risk of strangulation. A vulnerable individual may slide downward in a wheelchair or armchair while restrained by the lap belt, causing the belt to shift and constrict the neck. Without proper fitting, supervision or training, this can result in positional asphyxiation, strangulation, or falling from the seat and becoming injured, particularly if the user is unattended and/or unable to self-rescue. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) previously issued an Alert for this type of product, which contains further information on actions that should be taken: Medical Device Alert The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

What to do

Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
