What the authority reported

Issue: On certain motorcycles, the recall repairs completed by a BMW Motorrad dealer during recall 71 02 24RC (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-185) may not be effective. As a result, a second repair is required.

This recall is for certain motorcycles equipped with a BMW Motorrad accessory side case. The latch for the side case lid may not be properly secured, even if it looks like it is. As a result, the lid could open and detach from the motorcycle while riding. Note: These parts may have been installed on new motorcycles or sold as an accessory part through BMW dealerships. This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2024-185 Safety Risk: A side case lid that detaches from the motorcycle could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

What to do

Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
