What the authority reported
Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear engine cup plug may not have been installed properly. As a result, engine oil could leak and cause a loss of power to the wheels. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 3.5 L turbo engine.
Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Oil that leaks onto hot components can create the risk of a fire. Additionally, an oil leak could create a hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective Action: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the cup plug.
What to do
Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
