What the authority reported

Issue: On certain vehicles, the wiring for the center console extension may not have been routed properly. As a result, the wiring could contact the release for the shift lever lock. If this happens, the transmission could be shifted out of the Park (P) position without pressing the brake pedal.

Safety Risk: A vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury or a crash.

Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Hyundai recommends that you should always use the parking brake when you park. Hyundai will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reroute the center console extension wiring.

What to do

Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
