What the authority reported
Issue: On certain vehicles, the upper universal joint on the intermediate steering shaft may not have been manufactured properly and could break. As a result, the steering shaft could separate from the universal joint and cause a loss of steering.
Safety Risk: A loss of steering could create the risk of a crash.
Corrective Actions: Toyota will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the intermediate steering shaft.
What to do
Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
