What the authority reported

Issue: On a small number of trucks, the steer axle wheel bearings may not have been manufactured with enough grease. As a result, the bearings could become damaged and overheat. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with certain Meritor steer axles.

Safety Risk: A wheel bearing that overheats can create the risk of a fire.

Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to inspect and, as necessary, replace the steer axle wheel bearings. The dealer will also repack the bearings with grease.

What to do

Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
