What the authority reported

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem in the electronic stability program (ESP) control unit could cause ESP warning messages not to meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. This could also cause the malfunction indicator light not to turn on in certain conditions.

Safety Risk: Warning messages that don't meet the requirements could create confusion and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the ESP control unit software.

What to do

Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
