What the authority reported

Issue: On one school bus, the light sensors may not work correctly. Canadian regulations require that, if a vehicle is equipped with a light sensor, that the low beam headlamps and tail lamps must automatically switch on when it is dark or the tail lamps must stay on at all times.

Safety Risk: Headlamps and tail lamps that don't work properly could reduce visibility and make the school bus less visible. Both issues could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) recommends you to manually turn on the low beam headlamps until the recall repairs are completed. DTNA will notify the owner by mail and advise them to take their school bus to a DTNA authorized service facility to update the vehicle software.

What to do

Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
