What the authority reported

Issue: On certain motorcycles, the engine may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, there could be increased oil consumption. Under certain conditions, this could cause the engine to fail and the rear wheel to lock up while riding.

Safety Risk: A rear wheel that locks up suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Honda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to inspect the engine. The engine will be replaced, if necessary. For motorcycles that don't require an engine replacement, the final corrective actions are under development.

What to do

Follow the instructions in the official notice — recall remedies (refund, repair, replacement, or disposal) are defined by the issuing authority and the responsible business, and they differ per recall. Do not rely on summaries, including this one.
