What the authority reported

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the body control module (BCM) to reset while driving. As a result, the ignition could switch off and cause a loss of power to the wheels. It could also cause a loss of certain controls, warning lights, malfunction tell-tales and rearview camera system.

Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels, exterior lights that don't work, and/or controls, warnings and tell-tales that don't display could increase the risk of a crash. A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up, which could also increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the BCM software.
